Past Lambs
On January 25, 2018, Cotton Candy gave birth
to beautiful snow-white twins. They began
content simply alternating between feeding from
their mom and lounging in the sun, but were
soon prancing around the property. One is male
and the other a female.
On February 3, 2018, speckled-nose Lola gave
birth to a macho borreguito with matching ears.
We separate the two for a few days to give the
lamb easy access to his mother’s colostrum-rich
milk and to help him learn to identify her in a
bustling herd. Nonetheless they were both
happy to get out and join the rest of the flock.
On February 8, 2018, Comet-Angel, one of our
four Navajo Churro ewes, gave birth to an
hembra borreguita, that is, a female. So 2018 left
us with a total of five new Navajo Churro lambs.
A little arithmetic reveals they must have all been
conceived in Silver City before we acquired them
in November of 2017 since gestation for sheep is
about five months.
On November
27, 2018, Daisy,
our non-Churro
ewe, gave birth
to two fluffy
black lambs,
seen above to
the left.
On January 8, 2019 Bella gave birth to a cute
little female Navajo Churro lamb, white with a
chocolate stripe across her back.
On January 4, 2019 Cotton Candy gave
birth to twins, a male and female.
Our First, 2018 Season
Our Second,
2019 Season
On January 12, 2018, Bella gave birth to our
first Navajo Churro lamb. We had expected the
new babies in April, but were blessed to receive
an early surprise! The mother has shown
herself proud, protective, and hungry. The lamb
is a male, a macho borreguito. Since the white
fleece on his head resembles a widow’s peak (in
Spanish, pico de viuda), we just call him “Pico.”
On December 12, 2018, another sheep-ewe,
Blackie, also gave birth to twins, shown above to
the right. With their wool coats and snuggling
next to their mother they will stay plenty warm
during the winter months.
On December 9, 2019,
Fluffy, one of the two
new ewes we acquired
this year, gave birth to a
ewe-lamb. Taking the
name from the mother,
the little one is called
“Fluffita.”
On December 25,
2019, Bella gave
birth to twins, one
black and the other
white. Both are
ewes.
On January 8, 2020, Shadow gave
birth to a ewe.
On February 10, 2019 Comet-Angel gave
birth to a male (not pictured here).
On December 27, 2018 Lola gave birth to a
male.
Lambs come and gone, for the record:
On January 12, 2020, Cotton Candy,
another one of our original ewes , gave us a
third year of twins, both rams.
On January 25,
2020, Daisy, our
non-Churro ewe,
gave birth to a black
ram and white ewe.
On August 3, 2020,
Bella, one of our first
churro ewes and
experienced breeder,
gave us a borreguito,
her second birthing in
one year.
On August 8, 2020, Fluffy (not to be
confused with the commedian of the
same name), gave us a borreguito.
On August 13,
2020, Daisy gave
us twins, both
males.
On January 9, 2020, Comet-Angel gave birth
to a ewe-lamb. You can see Copper, the father,
on the left.
