Funerals
Condolences for the loss of your loved one. St. Edwin church offers funeral services for all of its members. Additionally, we also open our doors to family of parishioners and others who specifically seek a Catholic service to honor their deceased relative or friend. Typical funeral times are Monday through Friday mornings. Below you can see the most easily-scheduled arrangement for funerals. You are welcome to ask for changes, but be prepared to wait longer for a confirmation while we check the pastor’s already busy schedule.
1.  Any set-up for the viewing and service may begin after 8:45am, that is, after our regular parish morning Mass. At that time, the funeral party may start bringing in the casket, urn, flowers, and/or maybe a few pictures or mementos. Please do not set anything on our baptismal font. 2. The rosary usually begins at 9:30am. We will provide somebody to pray the rosary with you. 3. The Funeral Mass typically starts at 10:00am. We ask that eulogies be made at other times, such as at the vigil, after the burial, or at the reception. 4. As for music, we have a number of parishioners who offer their services free of charge for love of God whenever they are available. If that does not work out, we can also recommend other individuals. We allow musicians from outside the parish if they can confirm that they know how to play for a Catholic Mass. Secular music/songs are not allowed in the church and during the liturgy. 5. We supply a parish reader for the Mass. The funeral party may select a theme for the readings from a number of options we provide. 6. The burial follows. We have a Spanish-speaking deacon available if you like. Otherwise the funeral party may ask the cemetery/mortuary to provide an English speaking deacon. We will not book a funeral until we have confirmation from the cemetery that a burial place has been obtained. We do not offer services for those who plan on keeping the ashes in their home. 7. Our hall is available for receptions afterwards. You may use the refrigerator for keeping foods cold beforehand. If there is nothing else going on you are welcome to decorate the day before. You may bring in warmers for food prepared beforehand. We do not allow our stove to be used. 8. Vigils the evening before are possible in our church for the purpose of viewing, rosary, and prayer. 9. Once you have the date and times confirmed with the office, you are welcome to navigate here and complete your funeral preparation form. You will need an email, to which a copy will be sent, along with a link to finalize the form at home. Blessings as you honor your loved one during this difficult time. We look forward to working with you.
