Elementary & Middle School
Choir: information & updates
Dear parents and children,
St. Edwin church is pleased to begin a parish children’s
choir. We are blessed to have a professional choir teacher
with us, Molly W., who is licensed to teach the K-12 grades.
The program has two levels of participation:
LEVEL ONE
Practices take place within the context of the religious
education program, three Wednesdays each month, from at
5:30-6:00pm. For those in our elementary or middle school
program, choir forms the last half hour of the class. The
children will be learning liturgical hymns and Mass parts.
St. Augustine of Hippo once said, “The one who sings prays
twice.”
The children’s choir will sing monthly at one of the weekend
Masses. All those who show up early enough to rehearse may
participate. Check down below for our choir calendar,
updates and other information.
LEVEL TWO
At 6:00pm (after the regular catechism classes have ended),
those who are interested in being part of our performance
choir may remain to receive an additional twenty minutes of
instruction. During this second half, the students will be
introduced to various forms of popular music, looking ahead
to performning on our big stage at festivals and other
events. Frankly, it is a fantastic opportunity for children in
a small parish. Those imagining a musical career involving
singing will find a great first start right here at their local
church.
What about those who have already received First
Holy Communion and are not in the Religious
Education program?
The short answer is, children not in our religious education
program may absolutely participate! They arrive specifically
for the choir programa little before 5:30pm, and stay
through 6:20pm. They will be trained to sing at the monthly
Sunday Mass and perform at our two parish festivals.
For more information, you can visit the office or ask the
pastor.
